From library repository to university-wide service: Stanford Digital Repository as a case study

The Stanford Digital Repository (SDR) began as a preservation system for digitized library collections. With steady, ongoing development of the system infrastructure, programmatic activities, and staffing over several years, the SDR has expanded its focus beyond traditional library collections, and now offers repository services across the Stanford University community, including faculty, students, department administrators, and others. This presentation will address the challenges and opportunities faced when shifting and advancing the scope of repository services in order to meet the escalating digital preservation needs of a broad campus constituency with diverse content. It will also highlight the benefits of the Hydra open source community as a context in which an institution can grow its repository services.
