Reusing repository data: migration of data between repositories

The requirements for digital libraries are rapidly changing. Demands for new modern interfaces, better performance and good interoperability are perhaps some of the most important elements. It is important that information preserved in a digital library are stored using known standards to be prepared for the future of digital libraries and to preserve data for years to come.

We explain the do’s and don’ts of data migration. How can you prepare your data to be transferred? How can you reuse data you thought was perished? What about big data? How can you prepare your data to be harvested from other repositories?

We draw upon a recent example where Tind Technologies performed a migration of a digital library in Saudi-Arabia, where a digital library containing over 700,000 records was migrated to Invenio. We share insights about interoperability, and how to facilitate this type of process. This presentation aims to share our experiences with data migration and interoperability and the challenges coming along with the process.
