AB  - Abstract: Economic impacts of wood construction.
AB  - This study examined the effects of wood construction on the Finnish economy applying an input-output analysis approach. The study consists of two parts. First the effect of increasing the relative share of wood construction in Finland was studied. This was conducted by forming two scenarios in which the wood used in building construction was raised with varying magnitudes. In the second part the corresponding effects were calculated in a separate scenario based on exports of wooden construction goods. The results show that increasing wood construction has significant positive net effects on the Finnish economy. The high domesticity of the wood products industry compared to the production of many other building materials decreases the use of imported products. This in turn increases domestic tax revenues and employment. The growing need for sawn timber and plywood raises the demand of roundwood and forest stumpage revenue. Also investments on the construction of wood element factories would grow significantly. The results of this study are not exhaustive due to some simplifying assumptions made.
