AB  - This is the first critical edition of a set of regulations for the secular clergy prepared by Wulfstan, Bishop of Worcester and Arcbishop of York, in the early years of the eleventh century. The work appears in Corpus Christi College MS. Junius 121; as the versions in the two manuscripts are substantially different they are presented here in full on facing pages for ease of comparison. The edition provides full linguistic and bibliographical information, together with details of the sources of the work (with extensive quotations in the Commentary). The Editor re-affirms and strengthens Professor Karl Jost's demonstration of Wulfstan's authorship, and argues the centrality of the Canons of Edgar in Wulfstan's pastoral writings.
