“Between publication culture and funder mandates - What is the future for disciplinary repositories?”

A recent study by Björk et al. revealed, that only 11% of all repositories are subject-based, but over 43 % of all repository content is located there (mainly in PubMed Central and ArXiv). But are disciplinary repositories only a phenomenon in some research areas or is there a potential for them also in other academic disciplines? How are disciplinary repositories related to institutional ones (is there potential for a closer collaboration)? Could disciplinary repositories benefit from the rising number of funder mandates around the world? We want to address these and further questions in our workshop in order to get a better understand of the future role of disciplinary repositories.

The workshop is structured as follows: First different subject repositories will give insights into how their business models works and how they interact with the outside world. In the second part there will give an outside view, where disciplinary repositories are explored from several perspectives. In the third and final part we want to bring different stakeholders together in a panel discussion.
